A Photo Primer (Not for Dummies)

What is this document?

The goal of this web page is to help new users examine the results of the Photometric Pipeline ("photo" hereafter). After reading this document and trying the commands you should know how to display images of frames and individual objects and how to list parameters and flags measured by photo. Included below are brief descriptions of what photo does and links to more complete documentation by the authors of the software. This document is meant to be read on the WWW; it includes lots of links to other documents that will not be visible if you print it.

To just start typing commands and see some images, skip down to Jump Starting Photo.

Disclaimer: As the title suggests, this is not "Photo for Dummies." The author of this page is responsible for any errors herein. If the instructions below don't work, it is not necessarily because photo is broken. File a bug report only when you're fairly certain that the problem is in photo rather than in this documentation. The commands below have been verified to work at both Fermilab and Princeton using the current version (v???) of photo.
